I created this animation for Carnegie Deli in Adobe After-Effects using a technique called the “write-on effect.” The movement in the animation accentuates the curvature in the typography and conveys a human element to the brand in the imitation of handwriting. This process started with my own handwriting of the brand name to capture the speed at which each letter appears. The animation was produced frame-by-frame by keyframing the animated reveal of the logo. I used two color layers with an intentional delay to visually cue the natural pace of handwriting.

This is a photograph I took and then animated using Photoshop. The unique effect is derived from the original camera, which captures four frames at once from slightly different angles. I aligned each image on top of each other, using the eyes as a reference point, to display each image for three frames. A loop effect creates the perceived movement in the animation.

The goal in this animation was to create imagery and movement reminiscent of the display on an older computer with a CRT monitor. The logo for the music artist Adium was recreated in Ascii art, then pasted into the computer code text I used to generate the effect. The computer writing animation was created using actual computer code compatible with After-Effects to direct the animation speed and length.
